NF System - Closed Water Spray Equipment Commercialized: 2015
Parking lot fire contained with water alone.
In indoor parking lots, it was common practice to use foam to put out fires. However, foam is an environmentally damaging chemical, and becomes industrial waste after use, making it difficult to handle.
Therefore, we thoroughly pursued the suppression of parking lot fires using only water. We developed a technology that maximizes the power of water and gives it fire-extinguishing capabilities comparable to foam. It is easy to maintain and has economical total costs.
Parking lot firefighting equipment that doesn't rely on foam.
Indoor parking lots are designed to handle oil fires, so in many cases they are equipped with fire extinguishing equipment that uses foam as a chemical. However, many of the foam extinguishing agents currently in use are organic pollutants that are difficult to decompose and have a tendency to bioaccumulate. After use, they must be disposed of as industrial waste in accordance with local ordinances. In fact, experiments have revealed that foam extinguishing equipment has poor fire-extinguishing capabilities when it comes to ordinary fires caused by general flammable materials. This has led to a demand for fire extinguishing equipment for parking lots that does not rely on foam.
Create a membrane with water to encase the fire.
Development of water spray head (NF head)
How can we improve the efficiency of firefighting with water? Previous research has shown that, first, to increase the force of the water, it is necessary to spray it at a relatively high pressure. Secondly, it is necessary to spray it in a bowl-shaped manner that envelops the source of the fire. Furthermore, some research results have shown that it is effective to spray water with different sizes of water particles. This mechanism involves spraying large water particles directly at the source of the fire to cool it, while the smaller water particles are turned into steam by the heat of the fire, thereby containing the fire and suppressing the supply of oxygen.
To achieve this, the details of the water spray head were studied. The shape of the spray must be changed to effectively envelop the fire source depending on the ceiling height. Therefore, two types of heads were developed with different deflector opening angles so that the spray can be narrower for high ceilings (3.5 to 10m) and wider for low ceilings (4m or less). In addition, the slit shape of the deflector was improved to increase the proportion of large water particles for high ceilings, preventing water droplets from dissipating into mist.

Simple system configuration
Conventional foam extinguishing equipment has a complex system configuration. It is necessary to install a foam extinguishing agent mixing tank, a simultaneous release valve, a sensing head, and a manual start device, but the NF system does not require such equipment. A heat-sensitive release joint is attached to the water discharge head, and the valve opens when it melts due to the heat of the fire, making it an extremely simple system configuration.
