Zero Traffic Ward
The first hospital building in Japan to be registered as a design
Guardian/A reassuring ward where care is given to patients.
A typical hospital room faces a corridor, which connects to a visitor's day corner and staff station over a long distance. This hospital room plan eliminates that distance. There are two doors in the hospital room. Behind one door is a direct connection to the staff station, which will always be watching over you through the window. Behind the other door is a veranda corridor. The wide veranda corridor, with just the right amount of sunlight and fresh air, is a friendly lobby where visitors and patients can interact. We propose a new recuperation environment that benefits both patients and staff.

New design --
[Engawa corridor + patient room] ⇔ Staff station ⇔ [Patient room + Engawa corridor]
Generally, the view outside the window of a hospital room is the outside world, but here, there is a door and a wide corridor (engawa corridor) beyond it. The engawa corridor faces the outside and has a large opening, allowing for ample light and ventilation. It is not just a corridor for traffic flow, but also a space where visitors and patients can come into contact right at the door. It is the engawa corridor, or wide veranda, that we are all familiar with. It is a place where patients can take a step out of their hospital room, look outside, and change their mood, and patients no longer have to carry an IV stand down a long corridor to meet visitors, as they did in the past.

A day corner (large hall) is located adjacent to the staff station.
In addition, at Kirameki Terrace Healthcare Hospital, where this design was introduced, a day corner was set up next to the staff station. The day corner is a public space where patients can talk, rest, and eat meals, but this area is also monitored by the staff station, which increases the mobility of care.

The rehabilitation space continues to the back left, creating an integrated space with good visibility and few blind spots.
The illustrations shown are images from the planning stage and may differ in some respects from the actual product.
