Project Overview
This is an example of a conversion of a 17-year-old office building in an urban area into an urban complex with a maternity hospital as its primary focus, providing comprehensive support for families with families who give birth and raise children. The building was effectively reinforced with seismic reinforcement and its performance was effectively improved, and weight was reduced by demolishing facade part of the building. The Renovation was selected from the environmental aspects such as consideration for the global environment and reducing the impact of the demolition work on the surrounding area, as well as from the business aspects such as shortening the work time and pursuing economic rationality through the use of the infrastructure stock.
The revitalization of existing buildings through conversion is a response from a hardware perspective to the modern need for a transition to a sustainable society. As the social environment surrounding existing buildings changes, such as lifestyles, usage, and systems, the value of old buildings declines relatively. We believe that conversion is one solution to this problem, as it allows for repositioning by "increasing value."
The reduction in the building's volume, a measure to strengthen the building's earthquake resistance, led to the creation of a rooftop garden as a healing space, which was needed when the building was converted into a general medical building. Facing the garden are a cafeteria and studio, which can also be used open to the public. A healthy space where people can come into contact with nature has been created.
A sustainable society needs to be built using a variety of methods. At the same time, a smart city is not something that can be achieved by simply building it once. This project attempted to achieve this goal through stock utilization and Renovation.
Mitsubishi Jisho Design registered the trademark "conversion" in 2004. This shows that even back then they placed importance on adapting to change by revitalizing existing buildings.
