The collection of this library was purchased in 1917 by Hisaya Iwasaki, founder of Toyo Bunko, from Dr. G.E. Morrison, an Australian resident of Beijing, and consisted of approximately 24,000 Western-language books, paintings, pamphlets, and other items related to East Asia.When the library was rebuilt in 2011, a museum function was added to promote the collection, and it was opened to the public as the "Morrison Library."
