"Fortnite" allows you to jump through time in "4D" to experience three generations of "Maru Building"
Metaverse Experience
Started display at the special exhibition "The Story of Tokyo's Reconstruction" commemorating 100 years since the Great Kanto Earthquake
Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Junichi Tanisawa) is pleased to announce that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake this fall, we have created a metaverse content " " on Fortnite that allows visitors to experience the Marunouchi Building and Marunouchi space from before the earthquake and after the reconstruction to its present form using rare plans and photographs stored at our company. We are pleased to announce that we have created the metaverse content "4D Marunouchi", which allows visitors to experience the Marunouchi Building and Marunouchi space online, from its pre-earthquake and post-earthquake reconstruction to the present day.
For over 130 years since our founding, we have preserved and passed down through the generations the drawings and photographs of the various buildings we have designed. These are particularly valuable records for tracing the development process of modern Japanese cities and architecture.
We have recently launched an in-house "Meta Archives Study Group" with the aim of analyzing this vast amount of material and bringing it back to life in the present day using the latest tools. As part of this group's activities, we have launched "4D Marunouchi," a metaverse (virtual space) within the online game "Fortnite" that allows users to experience Marunouchi and the Maru Building in each era, from the pre-earthquake period through the reconstruction period to the present day. Anyone can access it for free by entering a code in the game.
This content is currently on display at the special exhibition "The Story of Tokyo's Reconstruction" (Hibiya Library and Museum, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) from Friday, October 20th.
Visit the historic Maru Buildings with a timeless 4D experience!
The Marunouchi Building (commonly known as the Marunouchi Building) was completed in 1923 with the design of our company (then Mitsubishi Joint Stock Company) and is an important building in Marunouchi's history. In the Great Kanto Earthquake that struck immediately after its completion, the pillars and walls of the exterior walls were damaged, and the first renovation work was carried out as a reconstruction of the earthquake (~1926).
It had a scale and advanced office format that was claimed to be "the best in the East" at the time, and has been popular as an icon in front of Tokyo Station for more than 70 years. In 2002, it was rebuilt into its current form (" Marunouchi Building") by our design, and it has been rebuilt to this day.
" 4D Marunouchi" reproduces this "Marunouchi" in 3D based on old drawings, old photographs, and documents that our company has stored. It is a metaverse that allows you to experience each "Marunouchi" at the beginning of completion (before the earthquake), after the renovation of the earthquake reconstruction (after the earthquake), and the present "Marunouchi" across time axes.
The total number of users is over 230 million worldwide. Archives are being developed on "Fortnite"
"Fortnite," the platform for "4D Marunouchi" is an online game developed by Epic Games in the United States. Players can build their own worlds or visit worlds built by other players. "Fortnite," which allows users to upload high-quality 3D models, is well suited to serving as a 3D architectural archive for Architectural Design firms, and we believe it will be possible to spread the excitement of cities and architecture to a wide range of users—more than 230 million people worldwide.
We plan to further expand the construction area and add new features in the future, so please look forward to it.

"4D Marunouchi" and the precious original drawings of the "Marunouchi Building" are on display
The special exhibition "Tokyo's Reconstruction Story" is a 100-year anniversary exhibition that focuses on the efforts to rebuild the capital city after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Through valuable materials from that time, some of which are on public display for the first time, the exhibition introduces how people at that time formulated new systems for the reconstruction after the unprecedented earthquake and aimed to create a safe and secure city through architecture and construction using new technologies.
Mitsubishi Jisho Design will be exhibiting "4D Marunouchi" as well as elevation drawings of the Marunouchi Building that are stored by our company during the second half of the exhibition (Friday, October 20th to Sunday, November 26th). This is a rare opportunity to see these precious drawings by our company's designers from around 100 years ago. We hope you will come and visit.
