Aiming for a "Super Mix" with the station as the hub, towards new urban development

Won the "Hangzhou Qianjiang New Town Phase 2 Industrial Headquarters Core Area Urban Design Competition"

Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Tanisawa) is pleased to announce that it has won the competition for the urban design of the Hangzhou Qianjiang New City Phase 2 Industrial Headquarters Core District, a development plan for Qianjiang New City, a new CBD (central business district) in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, China.

Promoting innovation through "Super Mix" urban development

This development area is located in the eastern part of Hangzhou city, on the north bank of the Qiantang River, a river known for its tsunamis. Five stations of subway line 9 are planned to be established here as a new CBD. It is approximately 8 km from Hangzhou East Station, one of the largest railway stations in China, and approximately 30 minutes from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. The area occupies an important position in the "Yangtze River Delta" between Hangzhou, Shanghai and Suzhou, and is an area where future development is expected in areas such as science and technology innovation and smart manufacturing.
Here, we have set a "4 layers x 5 hubs + 1 system" for the development goal of "creating an industrial cluster." We have given each area centered on a station a different personality that makes use of the historical value of the area, and proposed future urban development that will create a continuous "Super Mix" where multiple functions and uses are integrated.

Development area structure: "4 layers x 5 hubs + 1 system" for sustainable city development

The "4 layers" refer to the four functions required of a city: 1) historical and cultural functions that make the most of the region, 2) ecological landscape functions, 3) civic vitality functions, and 4) city structure that supports transportation functions. The "5 hubs" refer to the bases with five stations at their core that are a collection of functions that overlap with each of the "4 layers." And the "1 system" is an operation and management program necessary for the sustainable development of the city.
Between the layers and hubs, we will create "intermediate areas" that organically integrate them, bringing together people and creating the interactions that will lead to the creation of a town of the future that will continue to develop sustainably.

Area composition point 1: The skyline that spreads out from Mido Station, the gate to the development area

Midori Station is a new subway station that connects Hangzhou East Station and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, and will serve as the gate to this development area. People and goods will flow from here to Wubao Station and Liubao Station within the area, and then spread throughout the entire area.
We have dynamically planned waterfront and green spaces that welcome the rich natural environment, including the Qiantang River to the south. We have developed a framework to promote the growth of the city, drawn a skyline that gradually lowers from the landmark Yudao Station to Wubao Station and Liubao Station, and created an urban landscape that allows people to enjoy the style and characteristics of each of the areas named "Jianghehui, Yizhouchenghui, Zhilianhui, Lutanhui, and Yichaohui" based on Hangzhou's history and culture.

Area composition point 2: The area around Wupo Station, which creates and disseminates innovation with the theme of exchange

Wupo Station is a hub for communication and information dissemination. The surrounding area is home to the headquarters of science and technology companies and a variety of related businesses, and they are promoting the innovative products they produce and the charm of the town to the world.
By actively connecting above-ground and underground passageways and spaces, and by creating a three-dimensional plaza space in the intermediate area between the building and the public space, we will be able to generate innovation and communication. This will allow workers, residents and visitors to enjoy the value of this location, while also contributing greatly to the growth of the entire area.

Area composition point 3:

The area around Liubo Station, where innovative companies focusing on research and development are concentrated, will be designed as a model for a "zero carbon city," a demonstration base for eco-friendly and energy-saving corporate activities, and a space that harmonizes with the lush green environment will be constructed. A space for people to interact will be created between the greenery and the buildings, stimulating users' senses and promoting innovation. The open space stretching from north to south, which places importance on the local ecosystem, will connect the public space and the buildings, spreading bustle and vitality to the neighboring blocks.

Around Lupu Station, a space called "Green Valley" unfolds.
