In Japan, which is facing a declining population, I believe that revitalizing each region rather than concentrating it all in Tokyo is an essential theme.
The Watamachi Summit, held for the first time in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, and for the second time in Nozawa Onsen Village, Nagano Prefecture, demonstrated the possibility that the sharing of knowledge and human resources and the spread of enthusiasm across regions could lead to future urban development that is "our own business," which is something that is once again needed.
The third event, held in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture, will discuss the theme of "Defining the richness of the mind, body, and community" with pioneers of urban development from all over Japan. This is a public event for people who are challenging themselves to revitalize their communities all over Japan, as well as those who are interested in these challenges.

Maeda Pharmaceutical, which is developing a village in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture, with the theme of "beauty and health," Mitsubishi Estate, which is promoting the "Megurumeku Project" that aims to foster prosperous relationships between cities and rural areas through agriculture and food, Mitsubishi Jisho Design, which is carrying out projects in various cities and regions with "urban development" as its identity. The three companies have teamed up to hold this summit to delve deeper into "urban development of the future." They also aim to continue this initiative in other regions in the future.

Maeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

Maeda Pharmaceutical is taking great strides to become a "content creation" company that aims to extend healthy life expectancy. In addition to supplying safe and reliable medicines, the company continues to take on challenges in various fields such as food, travel, agriculture, and education, with "Healthianwood" at the foot of Mt. Mitsubishi Estate plans to establish a business and industry support facility related to food and agriculture in the Otemachi Gate Building, scheduled for completion in 2026. Ahead of the facility's opening, the company is promoting the Megurumeku Project*, which supports the challenges faced by local producers and processors who will be responsible for the future of the food, agriculture, fisheries, and livestock industries. We believe that bringing together positive players from all over the country in one region will create a chemical reaction, and that this energy will then spread throughout the country, leading to the creation of rich relationships between the region and the city. We hope that hosting the Watamachi Summit will expand the possibilities for sustainable urban development in the region.

Urban development is becoming more important than ever amidst rapid and complex social change. Against the backdrop of post-COVID and the transition to a mature society, approaches to urban development are also undergoing major changes. Mitsubishi Jisho Design has been involved in urban development in various cities and regions both in Japan and overseas, including the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho areas. To further develop the awareness and potential of "regional urban development" gained through the two previous "Watamachi Summits" held in two different regions, we are involved in the planning, operation, and administration of the third event in Tateyama Town. We hope to create a forum for diverse interactions within the town and for participants to connect with the origins of urban development.
