Event concept: "Turn the wall into strength and run towards the future"
In Japan, where the population is declining, revitalizing each region without relying on the overconcentration of population in Tokyo is an essential theme for creating a sustainable society in the future.
The Watamachi Summit has been held consecutively since its first event (Oga City, Akita Prefecture), the second event (Nozawa Onsen Village, Nagano Prefecture), and the third event (Tateyama Town, Nakaniikawa District, Toyama Prefecture). The summit has shared knowledge and human resources across regions, and the enthusiasm of players developing various activities in each area. This has demonstrated the need to make town development "our own business," and the potential of town development that is "our own business."
The fourth event will be held in Odaka Ward, Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and will feature a wide-ranging discussion with pioneers of urban development from around the country, under the theme of "Turning barriers into strength, racing towards the future." This is a public event aimed at those who are taking on the challenge of revitalizing local communities across the country, as well as those who are interested in these challenges.

In Odaka Ward, Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, we are developing a town with the theme of "launching 100 businesses to solve 100 issues facing the community." OWB Aiming to build a rich relationship between the region and the city through agriculture and food "Meguru Meku Project" Promote Mitsubishi Estate With "urban development" as its identity, the company works on projects in various cities and regions. Mitsubishi Jisho Design The three companies have teamed up to hold this summit in Odaka Ward, Minamisoma City, which has been facing issues such as population decline and an aging society since the earthquake disaster, to delve deeper into "future urban development" in which residents and those active in the area will take the initiative in urban development. They aim to continue this initiative in various regions in the future.
OWB Co., Ltd.
In today's increasingly uncertain society, the key to sustainable urban development lies in small, independent initiatives. OWB's mission is to "create 100 businesses from 100 local issues." With the goal of creating a community where 100 businesses employing 10 people thrive, rather than one that relies on one company employing 1,000 people, the organization has been putting this into practice in the Odaka district of Minamisoma City. This summit will bring together players from across the country who have similarly engaged in proactive urban development efforts to Odaka, providing a forum for sharing specific examples and lessons learned. By bringing together communities with different environments and conditions, participants will be able to broaden their perspectives and outlooks, leading to better initiatives. This is the kind of opportunity we hope to create.
Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd.
Mitsubishi Estate plans to establish a business and industry support facility related to food and agriculture in the Otemachi Gate Building, scheduled for completion in 2026. Ahead of the facility's opening, the company is promoting the Megurumeku Project*, which supports the challenges faced by local producers and processors who will be responsible for the future of the food, agriculture, fisheries, and livestock industries. We believe that bringing together positive players from all over the country in one region will create a chemical reaction, and that this energy will then spread throughout the country, leading to the creation of rich relationships between the region and the city. We hope that hosting the Watamachi Summit will expand the possibilities for sustainable urban development in the region.

Urban development is becoming more important than ever amidst rapid and complex social change. Against the backdrop of post-COVID and the transition to a mature society, approaches to urban development are also undergoing major changes. Mitsubishi Jisho Design has been involved in urban development in various cities and regions both in Japan and overseas, including the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho areas. Building on the insights and potential gained from the three previous Watamachi Summits in three regions, we are planning, managing, and organizing the fourth event in Minamisoma City's Odaka Ward. We hope to create a forum for diverse interactions within the city and for participants to connect with the origins of urban development.
