■ About the "Daimaru-Yu Area Community Development Project"

The Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho area (hereinafter referred to as "Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho") is one of Japan's leading business districts, but it also has a total of 12 childcare facilities where many children spend their days. Many childcare facilities in the city center do not have playgrounds, so children utilize open spaces such as local plazas and green spaces.
On the other hand, there was insufficient coordination between childcare facilities and the community, resulting in limited sharing of information regarding the actual usage of these facilities and the challenges faced by childcare providers.
Against this backdrop, the "Otemachi-Marunouchi-Yu Area Community Development Project" began its activities in January​ ​2021 with the aim of creating a town that is comfortable for both children and adults. Through interviews with childcare facilities and town walk surveys with children, the project has uncovered the attractions and challenges of the Otemachi-Marunouchi-Yu area from a child's perspective, and based on this knowledge, has formulated the "Otemachi-Marunouchi-Yu Area Pattern Language." Furthermore, in collaboration with local facilities and businesses, the project is developing "town play programs" that utilize nature and town resources, as well as "experiences such as growing flowers and vegetables," promoting the creation of a town that is comfortable for both children and adults.

Through this project, we aim to create an urban environment where everyone can feel comfortable by re-examining the city from diverse perspectives, starting with children, and fostering new relationships between people and the city.
