Kanagawa University Minato Mirai Campus
Kanagawa University Minato Mirai Campus
This is the first comprehensive university campus to be built in Minato Mirai 21 District. Multi-layered outdoor terraces and staircases are installed on the lower to mid-floors. Each floor connects to the learning commons inside the building. The upper floors are equipped with seminar spaces that double as staircases and open-shelf book storage. The plan is to turn the entire building into a place of learning, rather than confining students to labs or classrooms. Equipped with an industry-academia-government collaboration facility, a lifelong learning facility, a hall, and more, the facility is open to the community without a perimeter fence around the site, and the aim was to create an urban high-rise facility that is different from an office building.

In terms of Landscape, we aimed to create a space that would encourage people to walk freely in all directions, even though it is an urban high-rise campus.
The building was planned as the skeletal axis of the campus, with the higher floors positioned in the center and the lower floors housing community open facilities and a variety of terrace spaces, creating a three-dimensional flow of space. The rooftop terrace and plaza serve as "outdoor commons," providing a place for students to learn, interact, and relax.
