Kanagawa University Minato Mirai Campus

This is the first comprehensive university campus to be built in Minato Mirai 21 District. The lower to mid-level floors will feature multi-layered outdoor terraces and staircases. Each floor will connect to the learning commons inside the building. The higher floors will feature seminar spaces that double as staircases and open-shelf book storage. The plan is to make the entire building a place of learning, rather than confining students to labs and classrooms. Equipped with an industry-academia-government collaboration facility, a lifelong learning facility, a hall, and more, the facility will be open to the local community without a fence around the perimeter of the site, and we aimed to create an urban high-rise facility that is different from an office building.

In terms of Landscape Design, we aimed to create a space that would encourage people to walk freely in all directions, even though it is a high-rise urban campus.
The building was planned as the backbone of the campus by placing the higher floors in the center and providing public facilities and various terrace spaces on the lower floors, creating a three-dimensional flow of space. The rooftop terrace and plaza serve as "outdoor commons" where students can learn, interact, and relax.
