MARK IS minatomirai / Grand Mall Park Renovation

This commercial facility takes advantage of its prime location in Minato Mirai 21 District, directly facing the Yokohama Museum of Art and Grand Mall Park, and directly connected to Minatomirai Station via an underground passage.
As the second store under "MARK IS," the flagship brand of commercial facilities developed by Mitsubishi Estate, the store was designed with the theme of creating a "comfortable place you want to visit even if you don't have a specific reason," and is based on the concept of a multi-level urban park integrated with an art museum and Grand Mall Park.

The exterior design aims to create an attractive spatial expression where objects and ideas overlap, employing a segmented and stacked configuration, accented with white aluminum cast screens and green walls. In the central Grand Galleria, visitors can enjoy shopping and relaxation while feeling the soft light filtering through the lush surrounding greenery, the patios and terraces, and the "Komorebi Roof," the symbol of the multi-level urban park above.

Underground connection

Here, we are also working on the plan for an underground connection between this facility and Minatomirai Station on the Yokohama Municipal Subway (Minatomirai 21 Line).
As part of the renovation, the existing station building structure was first widened (widening area: approximately 250 m²). Station functions, including offices, were relocated and consolidated into the widened section of the building structure, and various functions that were previously dispersed inside and outside the ticket gates were consolidated to improve the efficiency of station operations. In addition, this renovation set back station offices and other areas, and widened the concourse, thereby ensuring smoother pedestrian flow to the surrounding area, including "MARK IS minatomirai," and improving convenience and accessibility.
The relocation of the station office was a highly challenging project, requiring the transfer of a critical facility that manages station functions without interrupting existing station operations. However, the project was completed without causing any disruption to station operations or passenger services.

Grand Mall Park renovation work

"Grand Mall Park" is a park that symbolizes Minatomirai, facing the Yokohama Museum of Art and running north-south through the central district of Minatomirai 21.
With the construction of the new "MARK IS Minatomirai" adjacent to the art plaza, we carried out renovations to the connecting section and to create a vibrant atmosphere by integrating it with the commercial facilities.
At the connection points, bollards and other obstacles were removed, and at the bridgehead plaza, the waterway that had divided the space in two was renovated, and a floor mist system was installed in the center to create a lively hub. Art furniture and greenery were also placed overlooking the floor mist system, creating a relaxing gathering space with a backdrop of green shade.
