Tohoku University AIMR Main Building
Tohoku University AIMR Main Building

A reconstruction plan for the school building facing the north gate of Tohoku University's Katahira Campus.
The exterior walls of the school building, which was constructed in 1924, have been preserved as much as possible in their original form, and new office and laboratory buildings have been built inside, renovating it into a cutting-edge materials science research facility.
The void between the two buildings is covered with a glass hat, drawing in natural light deep inside, and a natural ventilation system has been installed that expels the natural breeze that comes in through the opening through a ventilation window installed at the top.The balcony on the south side of the laboratory building has been fitted with greenery, creating a comfortable space for research and experimentation that takes advantage of the spatial design to harmonize with the natural environment.
