ACTIO Umedahigashi

A complex of buildings centered around apartment buildings, located in Nakazaki, Osaka.
Movable aluminium grilles attached to the balconies allow the exterior to change with the time and seasons, driven by the simple motivations of city dwellers: blocking sunlight and obstructing views.
The vertical diamond lattice shape changes colour depending on the angle of sunlight, and the changes in the lattice are regular and random, creating a new look through ingenious details.
By incorporating the ingenuity of the old townhouses that do not rely on machines into modern architecture, new designs are being created, and by the residents themselves using the movable lattices, it is encouraging environmental awareness. As it is a rental property, we hope that ACTIO Umeda Higashi will serve as a starting point for the expansion of people who are inspired by environmental awareness.
