Otemae University Building No. 1
1st Office Building, Otemon Gakuin University
This is a reconstruction project for the university administration building. The plan called for maintaining the unity of the campus with the previously completed Central Building and Building No. 6, and taking into consideration the viewer/be seen relationship with the surrounding buildings, while being highly symbolic as an independent building. In order to achieve both functionality for conducting university affairs and a design that will leave a lasting impression on those who visit the university, we realized an office where cherry blossoms, the flower of the university, are in full bloom. The windows can be opened and closed so that the cherry blossoms sway in the breeze, and there is no need to rely on air conditioning during the interim period. This new building has achieved a reduction in solar load more than a double-skin structure, with the cast cherry blossoms acting as a sunshade to block out the sun's rays and a symbolic role in lifting the spirits of the employees.
