EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN Mitsubishi Pavilion
Mitsubishi Pavilion for EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN
A rectangular and diamond-shaped space floating on an elliptical excavation in the ground. The overlapping shapes of this pavilion represent the coexistence of "life, earth, and humans," and it is a proposal for short circulation (small resource circulation) at this site. As a temporary structure lasting six months, it reduces the amount of concrete used during construction and demolition, and is constructed with reusable steel pipe pile foundations for easy demolition. Construction scaffolding and temporary materials normally used at construction sites are repurposed as final finishing materials to reduce the environmental impact.
The semi-underground space, which the pavilion blocks from the sun, will be used as a well-ventilated waiting area for visitors. The excavated soil will be used to develop the site, and will be backfilled after the Expo ends.
We aim to make the life cycle of "buildings on the earth, from their construction to their demolition" sustainable.
