PROJECTS

Otemachi Gate Building ((Tentative name) Uchikanda 1-chome Project)

This project will connect the two towns of Kanda and Otemachi. The planned site, facing the Nihonbashi River, was a loading dock for timber and stone materials for the construction of Edo Castle, and later developed into the "Kamakura Riverbank."

In order to connect the two towns and create a new flow of people, a plaza of approximately 1,000 m2 will be developed on the site and a pedestrian bridge will be built over the Nihonbashi River, extending the "Nakadori" street that runs north and south through the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho areas into the Kanda area.

The commercial facilities on the lower floors of the Otemachi Gate Building and the food and agriculture business and industrial support facilities are connected in three dimensions by plazas, terraces, and atriums, creating a lively atmosphere with easy movement around. The upper office floors have the rental rooms on the north side and the core on the south side to minimize the load on the envelope, and the rental rooms have a regular planar shape to create a sense of unity. Bay windows that function as sun shading and natural ventilation create an exterior with a rich expression.

A pedestrian bridge connecting the Kanda and Otemachi areas. It connects the bustle of the Otemachi-Maru-Yu area to the Kanda area.

This plaza receives the flow of people from the pedestrian bridge. Under the plaza, a district heating and cooling (DHC) facility extends from the Otemachi side and connects to the building, contributing to the building's acquisition of ZEB Ready certification (for the office area).
Northeast facade. The atrium on the lower floors opens towards the intersection to draw in the flow of people. Natural ventilation windows in the upper floor offices create a rich look.
The southwest facade has a terrace facing the square, connecting the lively atmosphere to the inside of the building.
Office entrance hall. The space is designed to evoke the image of "flow" as wood and metal louvers alternate, drawing people in to the back. Wood symbolizes Kanda, and metal symbolizes Otemachi. The wood louvers use offcuts to improve the yield of logs, contributing to longer-term carbon fixation.
