PREMIST NANPEIDAI

PREMIST NANPEIDAI

This 22-unit apartment complex stands in a quiet, lush area that has been known since the Meiji period as the residential district for important figures in the political and business world. While the emphasis on privacy often leads to a "closed" structure for the wealthy, which weakens the relationship with the local community, we pursued a style of housing that preserves the unique local scenery of greenery and stone walls, and can become an "asset" not only for the residents but also for the people living in the area.
The boundary between public and private spaces is formed by a single sheet of glass that reflects the surrounding greenery. Green spaces both inside and outside the site are layered together, and the line of sight is controlled by the shade and distance of the greenery. A sense of "richness" in the living space is realized by letting in the scenery through a series of large openings. This project explores how to respond to the challenges of dramatically changing lifestyles and working styles in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The overall view from Minamihirasaka. A thin membrane (stainless steel glass sash) reflects the green spaces and the city both inside and outside the site, exploring the boundary between privacy and public.
Living room. The glass is angled towards Minamihirazaka, reflecting the greenery of the trees both inside and outside the site. The roof balcony, which protects privacy, is a space that allows each resident to express their own lifestyle.
By actively incorporating green spaces within the site and surrounding area, an open living space is created.
