Shin Aoyama Building Renovation

Shin Aoyama Building Renovation

This project updated an urban complex connected to three subway lines, originally designed by our company (then Mitsubishi Estate) and completed in 1978, to ensure that it continues to be a "leading presence in the city."
The common areas on the lower and upper office floors were renovated, and a shared work lounge for building employees was established, reconstructing the building into a "modern workplace." The aging courtyard was renovated into a plaza open to the local community. The design of the underground shopping mall was renovated while the building remained open, adding to the architectural role of "connecting with the community" from both a tangible and intangible perspective. By interpreting the distinctive context seen in the designs of previous architects and creatively treating it as the "style" of the building, the renovation attempted to collaborate with history, connecting the architecture to the future.

The entrance faces the Aoyama 1-Chome intersection. A new logo sign has been installed, and decorative louvers have been added in a color tone that matches the surrounding context, strengthening ties with the local community.
The shopping street on the first basement floor, which connects to the subway station, has been renovated with a metallic-painted arched ceiling, creating a space bathed in the colorful light emitted by each store.

The newly built shared work lounge on the second floor. Curtains featuring large circular and arc patterns create a boundary between the outside and the corridor, creating a space with a calm atmosphere.
