The Hokkaido Shimbun Press Building

The Hokkaido Shimbun Press Building

The newspaper's headquarters building is located in the Sosei Higashi district, where Sapporo City is promoting new urban development, and stands along Odori, known as Sapporo's main street.
The "3C (Colorful/Connect/Collaboration) Zone," a communication space for employees built up facing the street, brings together vertical circulation lines such as stairs and elevators, as well as frequently used functions such as a multipurpose workspace that contributes to work and relaxation, a terrace, and a kitchen. The diverse activities for producing and disseminating information are displayed in the city as an ever-changing facade. The "3C Zone" also contributes to reducing the environmental impact within the offices by acting as a buffer zone to the main offices that lie behind it. Using paint made from locally produced reclaimed bricks as an accent, we have created a mass media base that is beloved by the local community.

Located along the street is the "3C (Colorful/Connect/Collaboration) Zone." Like the ever-changing front page of a newspaper, media activity is displayed, creating a constantly moving facade.
The "3C Zone." If the north facade glass is double-glazed without considering air conditioning in the 3C Zone, the temperature in the office can be maintained about 2°C higher than if facade were made of low-E glass.

The "3C Zone" on the lower floors is surrounded by louvers, allowing people to glimpse their presence from the outside.
A multipurpose workspace in the "3C Zone" that is conducive to work and relaxation. From inside the space, you can see the activities of people working on each floor.

A panoramic view from Odori, Sapporo's main street. A different media presence emerges than in the evening. The chimney shaft visible on the roof, utilizing the chimney effect, is made by spraying recycled local bricks.
