Inheritance Design
In ever-changing cities and buildings, it is necessary to balance elements that should be changed in response to societal demands with elements that should be preserved. This coexistence can create a gentle continuity of time in urban spaces that serve as the backdrop for people's memories and activities, fostering a sense of security and intergenerational connections. As history and people's activities are layered upon each other, it is possible to cultivate the rich and diverse values required in a mature society and create an attractive environment.
At Mitsubishi Jisho Design, we have named our approach of creating new value for the future by meticulously researching and uncovering the value of cities and buildings that have been passed down to the present day, and by making them coexist with modern demands, "Inheritance Design"*, and we are developing a wide range of initiatives.
Based on our extensive experience in "preservation and utilization of historical buildings," "Renovation," and "development and inheritance," we established a specialized organization, Architectural Heritage Design Office, in 2024. Using diverse methods such as design, consulting, technical support, assistance in building consensus with stakeholders, and archiving (record surveys related to renovation and demolition), we contribute to creating a society where economic viability, functionality, and cultural significance can be mutually achieved.
Our company maintains a vast collection of drawings and photographic materials of our own designed buildings spanning over 130 years, starting with the "Mitsubishi Ichigokan" (completed in 1894). Architectural Heritage Design Office continuously analyzes these materials, utilizing the results as unique historical insights to appropriately assess the value of various buildings. We also engage in research and various collaborations with universities and academics.
