The project is the relocation and new construction of the Hokkoku Bank Head Office Building under the concept of a community hall where people gather. The site is a corner lot open in two directions facing the greenery of a row of zelkova trees on the West Plaza of Kanazawa Station. The architecture is clad in a white lattice with brown terracotta louvers. It responds to the rich natural environment by presenting an endlessly varying appearance under the natural light of dierent seasons and weather conditions. Via the transparent atmosphere of the entrance hall, views of the row of zelkova trees are brought into the lobby of the retail section, while the upper-oor oces enjoy views of the Japan Sea and Hokuriku mountains. The heat load of the building is lowered through various environmental technologies that take advantage of the characteristics of the site and space, thus enhancing the building’s overall environmental performance. Water from an existing well is used to advantage, delivering annual energy savings of about 30% compared to a standard model (specication of former head oce). A familiar impression is made by the many local materials used in the building, such as cedar from Ishikawa Prefecture. The new Head Oce Building is a new community hall that inherits the history and culture of Kanazawa. It is a tting headquarters for Hokkoku Bank, which views its mission as working with customers to build a prosperous future for the region.[ Concept ]HOKKOKU BANK Head Ofce Building CONCEPT01Special FeatureLower stories like a lantern at night.
