HOKKOKU BANK Head Ofce BuildingTALK02Special Feature2014年11月、北陸新幹線の延伸開業が間近に迫った金沢駅西広場前に、同市を拠点とする北國銀行の本店が移転オープンしました。同行が掲げる「開かれた銀行」を体現するガラスのファサード、見通しのよい内部空間など、透明性が高く、人の営みが感じられるデザインが特徴です。竣工から約半年を経た新緑の頃、プロジェクトメンバーが一堂に会し、今回の挑戦にかけた想いを語り合いました。［ 座談会 ］In November 2014, a few months before the highly anticipated opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa, the new Head Office Building of Hokkoku Bank opened on the West Plaza of Kanazawa Station. In keeping with the bank’s philosophy of “an open bank”, the design is characterized by glass facades, open interior spaces and transparency, giving a sense of the activities that go on inside.About half a year after the opening, around the time when early summer leaves are turning green, members of the project team gathered to look back on the challenges of the project and what the new building means for the bank and its plans for the future.杖村専務：10数年前、今の約半分の広さの土地を取得した当初は、研修施設を併設した支店の建設を考えていました。しかし、旧本店の老朽化問題や、土地を追加取得できたこと、そして2011年の東日本大震災がきっかけとなり、本店移転が決定しました。そこからは計画を急ピッチで進め、2015年3月の北陸新幹線延伸開業前に移転を完了し、始動することができました。三菱地所設計さんには最初に土地を取得した頃から、どのような建物にするかを相談させていただいていました。飯田：本店移転が決まった後のキックオフミーティングの時に、杖村専務から「開かれた銀行」「サスティナブル」「BCP（事業継続計画）」というキーワードをいただきました。なかでも時間をかけて話し合ったのが「開かれた銀行」についてです。杖村専務：これからの金融業は、顧客志向で、スピード感をもって対応できなければ生き残れないと考えています。当行では、地域と共に豊かな未来を築くことを理念に掲げており、この新しい本店で、その姿勢を体現したいという想いが強くありました。お客様が抱いている「銀行」のイメージ、つまり重厚で格式張った、敷居が高い印象を払拭し、風通しが良く、気軽に相談に立ち寄れるような建物をつくりたいとお話ししました。その直後、軽快でシャープな印象の建物スケッチをいただき、私たちの想いを深く理解していただいたと感じました。飯田：銀行の本店として、ここまで透明性が高いデザインで良いのか、社内でも議論を重ねました。もともと金沢は冬の寒さ、夏の暑さが厳しく、全面的にガラスを使った建物が少ないのですが、敷地環境にも恵まれ、求められる高いセキュリティ性能や重要な生活インフラとしてのBCP、省エネ性能もバランスよく実現できる建築デザインであることを確信し、人が集まる「まちの広間」という大きなコンセプトとともに、ご提案しました。人が集まる広間のような銀行Tsuemura: We rst acquired about half of the land a little over ten year years ago, planning to building a branch oce with a training facility. But the head office building was getting old, and we were able to acquire the additional land at the site, and then the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. So we decided to move the head office. From that point forward the planning accelerated, and the move was completed before the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in March 2015. Discussions with Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei about the kind of building to realize began very early, from the time when the rst parcel of land was acquired.Iida: At the kickoff meeting after the decision was made to move the head office, Senior Managing Director Tsuemura listed three key themes: an open bank, sustainable, and business continuity plan. Among those, we spent a great deal of time discussing the theme of “an open bank”.Tsuemura: In our view, the keys to survival in the financial services business are customer orientation and speed in responding. The mission of Hokkoku Bank is working with customers to build a prosperous future in the region. We wanted the new Head Office Building to be a clear embodiment of that philosophy. We wanted a building that does away with common preconceptions about banks – imposing, formal, forbidding – in favor of an open and approachable atmosphere. As soon as we made that request, sketches came back of a light and sharp building, showing a deep understanding of what we wanted.Iida: Within the company there were debates about whether the head oce building of a bank should be as transparent as this. The climate of Kanazawa is cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and few buildings make full-scale use of glass.
