Year Book 2016Environmental ReviewThe Parkhouse Harumi Towers is located on two adjoining district facing a canal in the waterfront area of Chuo-ku in Tokyo. The concept was to enable “Living in a waterfront garden district” by providing high-quality urban residences in a waterfront landscape rich in greenery. The following were realized to create a sustainable landscape for the development.1) Mitigating the heat island eectMore than 40% of the site area is covered with greenery. Plantings were made in 58% of empty spaces, thus contributing to mitigation of the heat island eect. 2) Returning rainwater through permeable pavingMany of the paved areas on the site are permeable, so that rainwater is returned to irrigate planted areas across the site. The concept of this project was to enrich the area around Nagoya Station, which is now being redeveloped, with a building like “a majestic tree standing on a hill”. The landscaping concept is “Urban Grove”. A green hill was created to softly clad the podium with greenery 1) Sky garden to block heat : In addition to the greenery that covers almost the entire roof of the podium, paving with high water retention properties was used for the public open space sky garden on the west side. These steps contribute to reducing heat at the roof of the building.2) Disaster preparedness toilets : The Dai Nagoya Park was created at the point where the north side of the project meets the existing urban fabric. It is a multi-purpose plaza. In addition to serving as a site for interaction with the city, it increases disaster preparedness by providing greywater manhole toilets for use during emergencies. Landscape Environment Proposal – The Parkhouse Harumi Towers015
