The building needed to function as a hub for the activities and exchanges of the local residents. As many public facilities were to be developed in the surrounding area, an outdoor corridor with large eaves called “Watari Terrace” was installed. In addition to serving to connect various functions, the Terrace will extend itself as the town develops, thereby creating a network that ties the community together. The unevenly arranged vertical louvers that are supposed to resemble a forest encircling a mansion and the extensive use of wood from Miyagi Prefecture makes this facility a symbol for the region.
